Halloween Preview
We had our church's trunck or treat tonight.
Mickey Mouse
(Outfit put together before the party. I was holding on to the hope that he would want to be Elmo. Nope!)
poem -by loverboy, hunka-hunka
In High School I was in a creative writing class (yeah; I know, surprising). Anyway we learned that peotry does not have to rhyme or anything (or even make much sense), so here goes:
Happy birthday my darling dear
Here's my attempt at a little cheer:
A long time ago, in a land (too) far away,
You got me to get out and play,
Several months later, I realized the truth,
There was no one I wanted to be with, except for you.
Flash forward a few years, and as you can see,
With you forever in my life, I'm luck to be me.
I love you honey! Have a very happy birthday!
-Paul
PS. I am not eligible for the giveaway, because; well it wouldn't make sense

Birthday Giveaway! edited
I am horrible at remembering birthdays. Horrible. I might think of you on the day before, or the day after. Or even early in the morning when it is too AM to call.
For my birthday tomorrow, I am going to give you a present. Think of it as a Happy Birthday to you (if you win) when your happy day comes around and I don't call you.
(Who knew that I would have 13 draft posts hidden within these walls. Sorry, no 300 posts here. Only 293. Forget the original rules. Just write me a poem in the comments, that should be easy enough. I will pick my fav.)
obsolete---My 300th post has come and gone. Which post was the lucky number 300? It's not that hard, just get out your calc. Leave me a comment with your answer and I will pick the winner from the right answers (now I have to go figure it out myself).
Hint: October
Last day to enter: Halloween day---boo-ha-ha!
Do any of you remember my birthday parties as a kid? Costumes, pumpkin pinatas, bobbing for apples, the flour game. Good times!
Oh, you can also tell me how much you love me, too.
Now I need to go tell Paul to get on here and write a post about how cool I am...
hair-less
I have never seen my little brother with his hair so short. Man, he is cute!

He is doing so well and working so hard on his mission for our church in Argentina.

happeeoween
{gasp}
I've been gasping lately.
Dallin loves trucks.
...however...
Ellie is going to grow up thinking that truck starts with an 'f'.
Dallin can't say his 'r' sound very well and often leaves it out of the word.
You do the math.
Teachers and SLPs have been warned.
It has quickly become a word that they work on.
ttt ttt ttt tttruck!!!
Oh...he also leaves the 'cl' off of class.
He talks about Mrs. B's 'class' ALL THE TIME.
This one has provided a lot of laughs around our house.
I, however, will always gasp at the truck.
On our way out of school the other day, this was his dialog:
"big truck, little truck, mommy truck, daddy truck"
Meanwhile I try to get him to talk about something else.
Or at least say TTTuck, that's easier for him.
But PLEASE use your T's!

Not outside, but in.
Ellie's room colors have changed in my mind from pink and brown to brown and turquoise to, finally:
lime green, turquoise, pink, polka dots and stripes
ribbon picture board idea via Loralee
pillow idea via Martha (dollar store tea towel)
name sign via mom's cricut and my own imagination

ah-nee day momm-ee
My Ornery Day: Clearly woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Not sure why. Yesterday was full of girl-adult-talk (always needed and gladly welcomed). Rolling out of bed, I pleaded with man next to me to take boy to school. Man couldn't, but did get him ready for me. Off to school, boy throwing tantrum because he has to take his hood off in the building. Boy ah-nee day, too. Back home, breakfast includes cold pizza and sugar wafers. I am chilled to the bone, so I lay in boys bed covered in blankets while baby plays with toys. It's baby's nap time now, so I get in a bathtub FULL of SUPER hot water. I am dozy so I head straight to bed and sleep for 2 hours. Wake up and read book for 1. Lunch equals Raspberry Honey Mustard Pretzel Dip (fresh from a package VIA 'ama Duncan) and of course, pretzels. I topped it off with a handful of Good & Fruity's and a Reeses mini pb cup. I think I am taking today off as a mother/homemaker. I did, however, get a bit of exercise by running up the hill to meet boy's bus before it drove off.

Food, glorious food!
I need to sit down and write out the recipes you so kindly requested. We don't use recipes often so when one asks, the question is answered often with a blank stare and an "ummmmm....."But here is a recipe that we tried this past weekend:
{and just in case one side of the pizza didn't fare, the other side was topped with mozzerella, tomatoes, red onions, and basil}
Roasted Acorn Squash and Gorgonzola Pizza
1 (1- pound) acorn squash
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon salt, plus
1/4 teaspoon 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper,
1/4 teaspoon 1 pound pizza dough
1 cup shredded whole milk mozzarella
1/2 cup crumbled Gorgonzola
1 cup arugula
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Slice the squash in half from top to bottom. Scoop out the seeds. Slice the squash into 1/2 to 3/4-inch wide half moons and place in a medium bowl. Toss the squash with the syrup, olive oil, red pepper flakes, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Place the squash on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake the squash until tender and golden, about 20 to 25 minutes.
Keep the temperature on the oven at 375 degrees F. Roll out the pizza dough on a flour dusted piece of parchment paper to a 13-inch diameter. Place the pizza and the parchment paper on a baking sheet. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese and the Gorgonzola on the pizza dough. Bake in the oven until golden and cooked through, about 25 to 30 minutes.
Peel the skins off the squash. Top the cooked pizza with the cooked squash. Top with arugula and the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt and pepper. Slice and serve.
Our review:
We LOVED the squash. I would recommend trying just the squash if you're a gourd lover. The pizza was good. Different. I would use less Gorgonzola next time. Leftovers, straight from the fridge=delicious! If you don't like blue cheese, this one is not for you.
And for dessert: Graham crackers, melty warm chocolate chips, whip cream, and raspberries.
Some Tuesday Tidbits
- I am getting old. This morning, after pulling into the driveway and sitting there for about five minutes, I realized that I was listening to NPR talk radio, waiting for the story to end. Where has my youth gone?
- Ellie likes to eat bar soap. She is going to say bad words just so I will wash her mouth with it!
- I found a piece of paper on the floor with Dallin's scribbles all over it. Examining it closer, I found that the scribbles where actually letters: D-a-l-l-i-n all over the paper. This one's a keeper!
- We have tickets, my friends. Tickets home for Christmas. We got a steal of a deal, too! Can't wait!
