Knock on Wood!!!

The first three and a half months of my pregnancy, Dallin was Mr. Crazy man! I don't blame him. He went from getting all the attention in the world, going on walks all the time, playing at the park, wrestling with mom and dad, to Mom throwing up three times a day and having her avoid him until the smelly diaper could be taken care of. His poor little world was rocked. He was not a happy, or nice camper. These were sure signs of what is going to come when this new baby gets here! But the last two weeks I have felt mostly human again, and only throw up once every three or four days! What with things getting back to normal (for now, at least) Dallin is being such a good boy. He has been quite mild mannered and happy. He loves to sit and color or play with Play dough for increments of 30-45 minutes. He also insists that these activities take place at the kitchen table (hallelujah). He will play with his cars quietly on the floor. I am starting to wonder where my clingy, attention-hungry little boy has gone! With all this extra time on my hands I've been able to pick up the house more and sit next to him and read. I have even been able to read my own books. I think I have burned myself out a bit though, cramming in 6 novels in two weeks. My eyes need a break. So, with a clean house, a settled stomach, and a happy two year old, I feel that a "KNOCK ON WOOD!" is in order.

Tomatoes

Check out this link for a gander at our thriving garden tomatoes... http://phonycrafter.blogspot.com/2007/06/blt.html

The BLT

My favorite sandwich would have to be a BLT sandwich, with mayo and yellow mustard, on toasted whole wheat bread. Yummy! For those of you who are challenged in the language of abbreviations, a BLT is a Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato sandwich. I remember visiting my Grandma and Grandpa Breseman one summer (I think we were in Michigan somewhere, they lived there and in Florida). It is sad that a lot of my memories are moth eaten, full of holes. Most of my memories that are still in my brain involve food, however. Back to the story... Visiting Grandma and Pa "B"... We all went to lunch and I ordered a BLT. I still remember that BLT for it was the first time I ever partook in a toasted BLT. I am not sure whether I had added the mustard in later years or not. But I do remember that this was the first time it was toasted. From then on, I became a BLT junkie! And if we were in Michigan, I was pretty young. I will have to ask my mom about that one.

So after that long intro to the main point of this entry... I give you a couple shots of our garden.

Behold, the garden tomato! This beautiful Roma tomato plant is already sporting 1-2 inch long fruit. Paul planted five tomato plants this year and they are all thriving. The best part is that here is the Bluegrass Region, we get two crops, one in Summer and one in Fall. A garden tomato is just what the doctor ordered for the perfect BLT! Here is a shot from our lettuce patch. We planted a mix, so we have no clue what variety anything is, but it sure looks pretty. Again, perfect for a BLT!
And now the bacon.... Sorry, no shots of our pig, which we are going to fatten up and slice into bacon strips for our BLT's!!!

Now if I only had the energy to bake my own bread... Nah!

READ

Dallin is fortunate enough to have joined the Youth Summer Reading Program at our local library. They have all sorts of fun activies and prizes for reading or, in Dallin's case, being read to. The first activity that he participated in was the T-shirt day. He got to color a picture with crayons and then the picture was ironed onto a cotton T-shirt and the color from the wax crayon melted onto the shirt. He had a bit of help from Paul and I to get the outline drawn, but his signature scribble is still visible (although not in the pics that we took). He didn't care to have his picture taken but he was excited to wear the finished shirt. (Front of shirt above, and back of shirt in the struggling pic below) The theme is: "Get a Clue? Read!" or something like that.
Today for the activity, we went to see "Fashoo the Fool". He's a magician. Throughout the whole show, he couldn't find his rabbit. He looked every where for him. Meanwhile, he kept warming up his coffee in the microwave located at the side of the room. At the very end he had a volunteer come up and point a wand at the rabbits cage, but the spell hit the microwave instead and out came the bunny! It was pretty funny! He had a boy who was 11 come up and do a trick where Fashoo would put a sword through his neck. When he got the sword through, the sword got "stuck" so Fashoo asked the kids dad whether he wanted his boys head or body back. The kid started to look really sick, like he was going to pass out. I was so worried for him. The magician noticed and bent down and tapped both of his knees, which were locked. He then explained to all the kids what happens when you lock your knees and helped the kid to his seat. It kind of made me mad, though, because the dad (who works for the library) didn't budge. He just laughed and said, "He's fine." The kid looked like he was about to fall over and the dad laughs. Wow! (Off the soap box) But we did have fun otherwise. And now, Paul and I are also members of the Summer Reading Program (the adult one). Paul got a free mug and I got a free tote to carry my books in. Okay, so maybe we were a little too excited about our free gifts for joining. But hey, when Dallin joined, he got to go to a party where he got prizes and candy and games. Here's a picture of Paul, Dallin, Fashoo, and the lost-and-found microwaved bunny rabbit!

Our Memorial Day Baby!

Two years ago, on Memorial Day, Dallin was born. What a day that changed our lives forever! This is Memorial Day 2007. First thing in the morning, we headed out the door to buy a swim pool for an early b-day present. Dallin is just like his father when water is involved. It is his favorite thing and he always ends up soaked when he is near it! Paul and Dallin had so much fun in the pool. Kristen had fun watching... from far away. We went to the farm of some friends of ours later that evening and had a cookout. I took cupcakes for Dallin's birthday. As you can see, he enjoyed his to the fullest! This is Dallin's "aunt" Julie. She had to wrangle Dallin in so that I could get a picture of him holding still with his birthday cupcake. Julie has been a great help to me while I have been sick. She would pick Dallin up twice a week for three hours at a time so that I could get a nap or just be able to throw up alone without Dallin behind me making throw up sounds (funny, but true). I think that is the only reason that I have stayed somewhat sane Dallin and Julie are now the best of friends! We made an "ice table" for all the kids to play in. LOVE that ice! This is Dallin with his friend Jacob and his sister Rachel ( a great prospective babysitter!!!).
And here is the birthday boy on his birthday! Paul and I were so excited to pounce into his room singing when he woke up. He decided to sleep in late, so finally at 9:30 we thought he was awake. Paul opened the door and when we began the first note and realized that he was still FAST asleep, we shut the door, stifling our giggles. He woke up 15 minutes later. We bolted into the room singing "Happy Birthday". Dallin promptly cried out and covered his ears!!! Well, now!!! I didn't think that we sounded that bad, but Dallin takes after his mother and wakes up on the wrong side of the crib sometimes!
As per Duncan tradition, he got to have breakfast in bed. Waffles, sausage, and apple juice. We did not want to feed him in his crib, so Paul brought him into our bed. Daring, I know. We had even changed our sheets the night before. My (Kristen's) Dad would have croaked at the crumbs that we found later that night!!! Needless to say, Dallin LOVED the special treatment he got. I then taught him to answer the question "Where do you want to go to lunch?" with "Moe's". Moe's Southwest Grill in Lexington is the closest thing we have found to Utah trendy mex food. We miss Cafe Rio! Yummy! So we went to Moe's! What a fun holiday and birthday.

Few and far between...

These post will be few and far between, as you can probably tell by the last post being from Easter. I am feeling a whole lot better now, just being nauseous at night about every odd day. I am gambling doing a post right now, just because the computer makes me sick. But I still think in blogs, so I thought that I would drop a line, so to speak. This is a picture of a wall hanging that I made for my parents for their respective Mother's/Father's Days. It is my Dad's favorite scripture. I was planning on making one for my in-laws as well and then I got really sick, so it has been postponed for just a bit. So, act surprised when I get one done for you, Helen and Stu, okay?

Cousins!

Dallin and I went to Utah a little while back for my brother Kyle's mission farewell. It was nice to be home, although I was sick the whole time. I didn't get a lot of pictures taken, but here is one with his cousins Carter and Clark. And his cousin Kali, who calls him "baby Dal"!
Being sick is not conducive to being snap-shot crazy like I usually like to be! This is Dallin in his Grandparent's basement, attempting a dare devil move on the horsey. My sister got this horse when she was a little girl, now she's almost 30! So does that make her old, or the horse old??? Ha ha!!!
